Where Do Cam Models Come From? We Mapped 25,000 Streamers Across 11 Platforms

Ask a casual viewer where cam models come from and they will probably guess "the US, mostly." The data says otherwise. We looked at the self-reported location of every active broadcaster in our tracker — 72,443 models across 11 cam networks, of which 25,193 state a location we can resolve to a country — and mapped the industry's real geography.

The top 15 countries

The headline is the photo-finish at the top: the United States leads with 16.7%, but Colombia is at 16.2% — a gap of 117 models out of more than 25,000. For a country with one-seventh of the US population, that is an extraordinary concentration, and it confirms what the industry has known for years: Medellín and Bogotá are the studio capitals of webcamming.

Add Brazil, Argentina and Chile to Colombia and the four South American heavyweights make up 33.1% of the located cam workforce — a full third of the industry.

By continent: South America on top

Europe's strength is its breadth rather than a single giant: Italy, France, Germany, Spain, the UK and Russia each contribute 2.5–6% and dozens of smaller European countries fill in the rest. Asia is still under-represented relative to its population — but Japan (816 models), India (839) and Taiwan (364) are already sizeable scenes, and they are the fastest-moving part of our tracker.

Each platform has a passport

The most interesting pattern only appears when you split the map by network. Cam platforms are not interchangeable global marketplaces — each one has a distinct national base, shaped by payout methods, studio partnerships and marketing history.

• Chaturbate is the Anglo platform: the US has more than twice the models of any other country, with Canada and the UK in the top four. English-speaking, independent, home-broadcasting culture.
• Stripchat is the truly global one — and the gateway to Asia. It hosts most of the industry's Colombian studio scene and the bulk of its Japanese and Indian broadcasters. If you browse Asian cams, you are mostly looking at Stripchat inventory.
• Cam4 is the Latin-European platform: Brazil and Argentina on one side of the Atlantic, Italy, France and Spain on the other.
• BongaCams remains Russia's home network, with 60% of its located models based there.

For viewers this has a practical consequence: the platform you pick largely decides the accents you will hear. Our world map of live cams merges all 11 networks precisely so you can browse by country instead of by platform — and the per-country pages (Colombia, Japan, Germany…) show who is live from each place right now.

The two-thirds you cannot place

One honest caveat, because it is the most important methodological fact in this dataset: 65% of models do not disclose a usable location. Out of 72,443 tracked broadcasters, 39,864 leave the field empty and another 7,386 fill it with something unresolvable — "Wonderland", "Your dreams", "Europe", an emoji. Location on a cam site is a marketing field, not a census answer.

Two biases follow. Models in high-stigma environments are more likely to hide or fake their location, so conservative countries are under-counted. And studio models often inherit a studio-set location, which slightly over-counts studio hubs like Colombia. The real map is therefore even more concentrated than the disclosed one in some places, and flatter in others — but with a 25,193-model sample, the big structures (the US–Colombia duopoly, the South American third, the platform passports) are robust.
